Cooking is one of life’s pleasures. Food can cure a lot of problems, especially matters of the heart. But you have to admit that cooking has become an interesting activity, mostly because many people develop a passion for it. Desserts, on the other side, are true art. Chefs all around the world compete against each other to make the best desserts, and most of the times, it is us in front of the monitor who drool over the keyboard.

Well, not necessarily as a dessert, because a ham and cheese filled crepe is just as good as one filled with chocolate and fruit. But the point is that you can do a tasty crepe at home as well. Crepe pan vs. Crepe maker
I suppose you heard about crepe makers before. A lot of people will ask you why choose a pan instead of a maker. There are multiple reasons for that. Not everyone is going pro with crepes, and some of them, myself included, like to indulge themselves only once in a while, so a crepe maker would overdo it. Here are a few reasons why a crepe pan is sometimes better than a crepe maker.
- Crepe makers are for professionals or people who make crepes on a regular basis. For thatreason, a crepe maker is more expensive than a crepe pan. If you think about it, it is not worth it. - Crepe pans are light, and they occupy less space than a crepe maker. That also makes them more portable. You can take them with you on vacation if you like, but you can take it with you if you are cooking someplace else than at home. A crepe maker is rather heavy and more difficult to carry. Not to mention that it is easier to break.
- A crepe pan will always be easier to clean and maintain than a crepe maker. Some models can even be put into the dishwasher. Try doing that with a crepe maker. You cannot. A crepe maker requires you to clean it by hand, but you cannot submerge it under water, and you cannot use too much water either. It requires more attention from your part.
- Crepe makers do not have defined edges. That will make an amateur spill batter all over the place. A crepe pan, on the other hand, has a small edge that will define the size of the crepe, which makes it easier for the person making the crepes. Simple as that.
- You can tilt a crepe pan, but you cannot a crepe maker. Thus you need a spreader or a spatula every single time.
- A crepe pan will allow you to turn the crepe by throwing it up into the air like a pancake, which makes tilting easier. That is if you know how to throw. You cannot do that with a crepe maker.
I am not saying that a crepe maker is not a good option because it is. However, before deciding, think a bit to see if you really need it. It is an investment, after all, and it is not worth it if you use it just a few times per year.
How to choose the best crepe pan
Now that you have made the decision of buying a crepe pan, you must learn which one to choose. It is not difficult, but you have to pay attention to a few details. You can also choose stainless steel with a copper or aluminum base. Stainless steel by itself is a poor heat conductor, which is why it needs the aluminum or copper base. Last but not least, cast iron or enameled cast iron is the most expensive at times, but the heat distribution is excellent. The material also retains heat for a long time.
- Non-stick feature – that is a must. By definition, crepes are very thin, so if they stick to the pan, they are lost. That is why you need a non-stick crepe pan. Moreover, a pan with that quality will be much easier to clean than one without. This feature is usually in the specifications of a particular product, but not all non-stick crepe pans actually have that property. That is why it is best if you read reviews first.

The handle is a part of the pan. It is neither bolted nor welded. That makes it sturdy and durable. There is even a hole in it so that you can hang it when not in use. The enamel exterior makes it extremely durable, and the satin black interior enamel does not require any seasoning. You can cook without oil, which is the healthiest alternative.
As you may expect, the crepe pan from La Creuset is non-stick. You can throw the crepe in the air without having to use a spatula. The handle has an ergonomic design which ensures a comfortable and secure grip. You do not have to worry about burning your hand.
The manufacturer recommends that you wash this crepe pan by hand. You can use it on any stovetop, induction included, and you can put it in the oven with no limit for the temperature.
