Best Crepe Pans Reviews

Cooking is one of life’s pleasures. Food can cure a lot of problems, especially matters of the heart. But you have to admit that cooking has become an interesting activity, mostly because many people develop a passion for it. Desserts, on the other side, are true art. Chefs all around the world compete against each other to make the best desserts, and most of the times, it is us in front of the monitor who drool over the keyboard.

The good thing is that everyone likes dessert, and we all try to make something at home. One of my favorite desserts in crepes. Well, not necessarily as a dessert, because a ham and cheese filled crepe is just as good as one filled with chocolate and fruit. But the point is that you can do a tasty crepe at home as well. However, you need a crepe pan for that. They can be found easily online, but in department stores as well.

Crepe pan vs. Crepe maker

I suppose you heard about crepe makers before. A lot of people will ask you why choose a pan instead of a maker. There are multiple reasons for that. Not everyone is going pro with crepes, and some of them, myself included, like to indulge themselves only once in a while, so a crepe maker would overdo it. Here are a few reasons why a crepe pan is sometimes better than a crepe maker.

  1. Crepe makers are for professionals or people who make crepes on a regular basis. For thatreason, a crepe maker is more expensive than a crepe pan. If you think about it, it is not worth it. If you make a crepe breakfast now and then, spending a few hundreds of dollars on a crepe maker does not make sense. The pan is for people who rarely make crepes, or for people who cannot afford a crepe maker. Nonetheless, the pan will do an excellent job as well.
  2. Crepe pans are light, and they occupy less space than a crepe maker. That also makes them more portable. You can take them with you on vacation if you like, but you can take it with you if you are cooking someplace else than at home. A crepe maker is rather heavy and more difficult to carry. Not to mention that it is easier to break.
  3. A crepe pan will always be easier to clean and maintain than a crepe maker. Some models can even be put into the dishwasher. Try doing that with a crepe maker. You cannot. A crepe maker requires you to clean it by hand, but you cannot submerge it under water, and you cannot use too much water either. It requires more attention from your part.
  4. Crepe makers do not have defined edges. That will make an amateur spill batter all over the place. A crepe pan, on the other hand, has a small edge that will define the size of the crepe, which makes it easier for the person making the crepes. Simple as that.
  5. You can tilt a crepe pan, but you cannot a crepe maker. Thus you need a spreader or a spatula every single time.
  6. A crepe pan will allow you to turn the crepe by throwing it up into the air like a pancake, which makes tilting easier. That is if you know how to throw. You cannot do that with a crepe maker.

I am not saying that a crepe maker is not a good option because it is. However, before deciding, think a bit to see if you really need it. It is an investment, after all, and it is not worth it if you use it just a few times per year.

How to choose the best crepe pan

Now that you have made the decision of buying a crepe pan, you must learn which one to choose. It is not difficult, but you have to pay attention to a few details. That is if you want to buy a high-quality product that you can use for years to come. Moreover, you want a crepe pan that will make your job easier. Here is what to look for.

  • Material – when it comes to material, you have a few options. What you need to remember is that you need a metal with an even heat distribution. You want those crepes evenly cooked and with that golden look that makes them look delicious. You can go for hard anodized aluminum, which thanks to the anodizing process it combines the heat distribution of the aluminum with the sturdiness of steel. You can also choose stainless steel with a copper or aluminum base. Stainless steel by itself is a poor heat conductor, which is why it needs the aluminum or copper base. Last but not least, cast iron or enameled cast iron is the most expensive at times, but the heat distribution is excellent. The material also retains heat for a long time.
  • Non-stick feature – that is a must. By definition, crepes are very thin, so if they stick to the pan, they are lost. That is why you need a non-stick crepe pan. Moreover, a pan with that quality will be much easier to clean than one without. This feature is usually in the specifications of a particular product, but not all non-stick crepe pans actually have that property. That is why it is best if you read reviews first.
  • Handle – this is another important aspect. The best handle is the one that it is heat resistant. You do not want to get burned while turning the crepe, and you do not want to throw a towel over the handle either. And if the handle can secure a comfortable grip, that would be great.
  • Durability – just like with any other piece of kitchenware, you want to buy a crepe pan that will last for years. That is why you should buy a durable product. I, for example, have a crepe pan that I bought almost seven years ago. That is what you should aim for. It does not matter that it is one of the cheapest products you find, it has to deliver the promised quality. Durable is always better. Quick tip: a scratch-resistant crepe pan will always last longer.

What are the best crepe pans?

Now that you learned a thing or two about crepe pans, it is time to choose one. Many people question products when they first see them, and it is for a good reason. Not all manufacturers are honest. However, that is why I recommend that you read crepe pan reviews before making a purchase. An individual who has already bought a crepe pan is the most qualified to tell you whether that particular productis worth the money or not.

Cuisinart Chef’s Classic Non-Stick Crepe Pan

Cuisinart is my favorite manufacturer when it comes to kitchenware. They always make high-quality products, and the prices are not exaggerated. That is why I chose this crepe pan. According to online reviews, it is one of the best crepe pans on the market, and its affordability makes it one of the most popular products in this range. It is made of hard anodized aluminum, and the dense exterior is non-porous. That makes it highly resistant to wear so that it will last for years to come. The hard anodized exterior also ensures a professional performance with even heat distribution. You will be able to cook perfect crepes. The diameter of the pan is 10 inches.

The interior is coated with quantanium, a patented non-stick surface that is reinforced with titanium. That makes the pan very easy to use, easy to clean, and it promotes a fat-free cooking, which is healthier than the alternative.

The riveted handle is made of solid stainless steel. As you may already know, stainless steel is a poor heat conductor, which means the handle will remain cool on the stove top. Its shape provides a solid and safe grip. Other features include a tapered rim that prevents drips and the fact that the pan can be safely put inside an oven as long as the temperature does not exceed 500º F. However, the pan is not induction ready, so if you have an induction stovetop, I recommend you look for another product. Click here to read more reviews and buy on Amazon.

This may be one of the cheapest crepe pans, but that does not mean its quality has to be questioned. In fact, according to people who have already bought the pan, it is surprisingly good. It is true that this model is meant for people who cannot afford to spend much money, but the manufacturer made sure that the pan can provide the best quality for that money.

The pan is made of cast iron, but the heat distribution and retention are excellent. You do not have to worry that your crepes will come out unevenly cooked. Quite the contrary, this round griddle will do exactly what the label says. The pan comes pre-seasoned, which means it is non-stick and ready to use. You can also put the pan in the oven, but the temperature must not be higher than 500º F.

The handle is a part of the pan. It is neither bolted nor welded. That makes it sturdy and durable. There is even a hole in it so that you can hang it when not in use. Cleaning the Lodge pan is very easy. All you have to do is rinse it with hot water. Keep in mind that it has to be thoroughly dried before storage. Otherwise, it will rust. The Lodge pan can be used not only for crepes, but for pancakes, vegetables, eggs, or anything else you may want to cook in it. Click here to read more reviews and buy on Amazon.

Le Creuset Enameled Cast Iron Crepe Pan

Le Creuset crepe pan is in another league entirely. It is an authentic French-inspired crepe pan made out of enameled cast iron, the best there is. For that reason, it has an even heat distribution that will help you make the perfect crepes. The enamel exterior makes it extremely durable, and the satin black interior enamel does not require any seasoning. You can cook without oil, which is the healthiest alternative.

As you may expect, the crepe pan from La Creuset is non-stick. You can throw the crepe in the air without having to use a spatula. The handle has an ergonomic design which ensures a comfortable and secure grip. You do not have to worry about burning your hand.

The manufacturer recommends that you wash this crepe pan by hand. You can use it on any stovetop, induction included, and you can put it in the oven with no limit for the temperature. This pan measures 10 and 2/3 inches. Unlike the other two models, the price for this one is quite high, but if you plan on making crepes more often and on a professional level, it is worth it.
